Description:
Cy feels very fortunate to have had both fulfilling work and educational opportunities throughout his life. After finishing an undergraduate degree with a focus in biology and architecture, he completed his Master of Science in education. While in school, he worked in EMS and became a nationally registered paramedic. His career in EMS spans 32 years and includes work as a first responder, program developer, and educator in both urban and rural EMS. He’s had the opportunity to run and respond with a DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) as well as train medical teams for deployment to Antarctica, South and Central American, and the Pacific Rim. He has an appreciation for the entire discipline of wilderness medicine, but retains special fondness for Marine topics—after diving commercially for a period of time—and toxicology which satisfies his life-long interest in poisonous reptiles, invertebrates, and insects. Cy considers the most rewarding part of the WMA curriculum to be the moment where students become empowered to think critically as medical providers.
