WMA CANADA IN CHINA
In 2006 & 2007, Wilderness Medical Associates Canada taught a wilderness advanced first aid and wilderness first responder on Mainland China. Although, previous programs have occurred in Hong Kong and Taiwan, to the best of our knowledge, these were the first wilderness first aid programs to run on Mainland China…ever!
The courses took place in Guangxi, Yangshuo, a popular adventure sport and travel
destination. Chinaclimb, the premier rock climbing organization in China, has hosted
both courses. Chinaclimb consists of a group of multi-national guides who offer rock
climbing & adventure excursions in Yangshuo and other areas of China. Their guides
have pioneered numerous routes and are generally considered the most skilled and
knowledgeable rock & rope climbers in China. For more information check out www.chinaclimb.com.
In recent years, adventure activities in China have exploded in popularity both for the international and local community. Beside the need for creating highly trained guides, Wilderness Medical Associates Canada programs are also in demand with independent schools for the large ex-pat community. Given the vast opportunities, many schools have created in-depth outdoor education curriculum and require their teachers to be trained as wilderness first responders. Students from local Chinese communities have also enrolled students to complement rescue teams and mountain safety initiatives.
Wilderness Medical Associates Canada courses in China have been taught both in
Mandarin and English.
